The atmosphere is friendly, warm and welcoming. The food is amazing and the various homemade sauces are delicious. Nigel was very sweet and welcoming to everyone that came into the establishment. My family lives in Lawton, but I’m from Arizona, so every chance we get to eat here, we make it a point to stop and dine in.

We came here for lunch on our son's Family Day at Fort Sill. Boy did we make the right decision. First, the food was absolutely delicious and worth it. Second, the 4th generation owner Lonzo, made our meal particularly special and memorable by honoring our son with some wonderful words of gratitude for his service.

The best home cooked meal in two weeks since arriving to Lawton. Food was hot and smoked/flavored/seasoned/grilled properly. Staff was fast and friendly.

We've been coming to John & Cook's for years now. They know us by name - try getting that at a chain. What can I say? It's real Pit barbecue - none of that acrid mesquite smoke. The sauce is so good we ship it to friends in WI and MN. I vacilate on the sides but usually it's Coleslaw and potato salad. Beans are top tier too with a little heat and a little mustard. You can't miss with that selection either. This family is a local treasure. They do a ton of good in the community. It is worth the drive from anywhere to John & Cook's.

I first stepped into John & Cook’s BBQ in Lawton back in 1982 during my AIT at Fort Sill, and it’s been a cornerstone of my culinary life ever since. Stationed here over the years, I’ve made countless visits, and after retiring in 2014, I settled in Medicine Park—yet I still make the trip for their unmatched flavors. This place is more than a restaurant; it’s a tradition. The ribs are fall-off-the-bone perfection, smoky and rich, while the brisket is tender and succulent, melting in your mouth with every bite. For lunch, their pulled pork sandwich is a go-to—juicy, flavorful, and piled high. The sides are just as impressive: the potato salad is smooth and creamy, the coleslaw crisp and delicious, and their baked beans? I’m not sure how they do it, but they’re a mystery I’m happy to savor. Lonzo and his crew elevate the experience with their warmth—always personable, always customer-focused. In all the decades I’ve been coming here, I’ve never had a subpar meal. Not once. John & Cook’s isn’t just BBQ; it’s a Lawton institution that’s stood the test of time. Whether you’re a soldier, a local, or just passing through, this spot delivers consistency and heart in every bite. I’ll keep coming back as long as they’re open—and I hope that’s forever.
